Solutions for Face ID

1. Check for updates

Update your iPhone or iPad's software to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. And make sure your iPhone or iPad model supports Face ID.

2. Check settings for Face ID

To check your Face ID settings, go to Settings and then Face ID & Access Code. Check that Face ID is set and that the features you are trying to use it with are on.

3. Check that the TrueDepth is not covered

Remove anything that might cover the TrueDepth camera. Such as dirt, a case, or a phone protector. When using an iPad in landscape mode, check that your finger or palm is not covering the TrueDepth camera. If it is, an alert may appear at the top of the screen saying "Camera covered" with an arrow pointing at the TrueDepth camera.

4. Make sure your face is not blocked

Make sure your eyes, nose and mouth are fully visible to the TrueDepth camera. If your nose and mouth are covered, Face ID will not work. If you wear a face mask and have already set up Face ID with a mask, make sure your eyes are not blocked. You can use Face ID with a mask on iPhone 12 and later with iOS 15.4 and later. You may need to hold the iPhone higher when wearing a face mask. If your wearing a face mask too high or too close to your eyes, your iPhone may not unlock.

Face ID works with many sunglasses, although Face ID with a mask is not designed to work with sunglasses. If you wear sunglasses designed to block certain types of light, your sunglasses might block the infrared light used by the TrueDepth camera. Try using Face ID without your sunglasses on your nose and you may no longer need Face ID repair from FixNow.

5. Make sure your face is facing the TrueDepth camera

Face ID works on iPhone only when it is in portrait mode and iw face is facing the TrueDepth camera. On an iPad, you can use Face ID in any mode. The TrueDepth camera has a similar field of view as when you take a selfie or make a FaceTime call. Whether your iPhone or iPad is on a surface or you are holding it in a natural position, make sure your iPhone or iPad is an arm's length or closer (10-20 centimetres) to your face.

6. Restart device

Restart your iPhone or iPad and enter your password. Then try using Face ID again.

7. Add an alternative look

For most users, Face ID will constantly learn as they change. If you have an appearance that may look very different, you can set an alternate appearance so Face ID will still recognise you.

8. Resetting Face ID

If you still need help, reset your Face ID and then set it up again. Go to Settings, tap Face ID & Access Code, then tap Reset Face ID. After that, tap Set Face ID to reset it.
