MacBook trackpad replacement
Has your MacBook's trackpad stopped clicking, or does the cursor jump around the screen on its own? Frustrating, since a MacBook screen isn't a touchscreen. The trackpad is your only way to point and click; if it stops working, everything comes to a halt.
Usually it's not too bad — the trackpad is a separate component that we replace on its own. But watch for one signal: if the trackpad clicks poorly and the housing bulges, a swelling battery is often pushing it up from the inside. In that case, come by FIXNOW in Antwerp or Wolvertem quickly. We first run a diagnosis and discuss the price.

- The trackpad no longer clicks, or only on one side
- The cursor jumps or stutters while typing
- Clicking works sometimes, sometimes not
- The trackpad feels hollow or lifts up
- The housing around the trackpad bulges slightly
- Swiping and scrolling respond slowly or not at all
What you can check yourself first
Before you come by, there are a few things you can safely check yourself.
- Fully restart your MacBook. Sometimes the trackpad stutters due to software, not a defect.
- Check whether the trackpad or the housing underneath is bulging. If so, use your MacBook as little as possible and come by soon.
- Connect a mouse. If it works normally, the problem is probably in the trackpad.
- Don't press hard on a bulging trackpad to test it. Don't force anything.
How FIXNOW handles it
Diagnosis
We check whether the issue is the trackpad itself or something behind it, such as a swelling battery pressing against the trackpad. These two call for a different approach, so we first confirm what's going on.
Repair
If the trackpad needs replacing, we install a new one. If the battery turns out to be the cause, we address that, so the trackpad sits flat and stable again.
Testing
After the replacement, we test clicking, swiping, scrolling, and cursor precision. You then take your MacBook home with a trackpad that feels the way it should again.
Why you should act quickly on a bulging housing
- Does the trackpad click poorly and does the housing around it bulge slightly? That often points to a swelling battery pushing against the trackpad from the inside. Don't wait: come by FIXNOW in Antwerp or Wolvertem soon, and we'll take a look right away.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still use a mouse with a broken trackpad?
Yes. A connected mouse works independently of the trackpad. That's a fine stopgap until you come by, as long as the housing isn't bulging.
Why does my trackpad click poorly when nothing looks visibly broken?
A common cause is a battery swelling on the inside and pushing the trackpad upward. You sometimes only notice this once the housing starts to bulge slightly.
Can the trackpad be replaced separately?
Yes. The trackpad is a separate component. FIXNOW replaces it on its own, without unnecessarily opening up the rest of your MacBook.
My cursor jumps around randomly. Is that the trackpad's fault?
It could be, but a software glitch can also cause this. Restart your MacBook first. If the cursor keeps jumping, we'll take a look during the diagnosis.
How much does replacing a MacBook trackpad cost?
The price varies per model and is listed on this page. We first run a diagnosis and discuss the price before replacing anything.
How long does a trackpad replacement take?
That varies per model. Often your MacBook is ready while you wait. During the diagnosis you'll immediately know where you stand.
