A Steam Deck goes everywhere with you, and that leaves its marks. A stick starts to drift or the screen gets a crack. Many of those problems can be fixed, without the need for a new device.

Steam Deck drift and other repairs
On both the OLED and the LCD, the thumbsticks are modules on a flex cable, so they can be replaced. For drift there are two options: replace only the stick that drifts, or swap both sticks for TMR sticks.
TMR sticks measure the position magnetically, based on the Hall effect principle. Nothing slides along a contact that can wear out. That is why a TMR stick lasts much longer than a classic one.
- Steam Deck screen replacement, for both the OLED and the LCD
- Battery replacement if the Steam Deck lasts much less time than it used to
- USB-C port replacement if the cable sits loose or charges only in one position
- Charging chip repair if the port is fine, but charging still does nothing
- Fan replacement, and cleaning of dust and thermal interface if the Steam Deck gets too warm
- SSD upgrade: we install a larger SSD, including on a Steam Deck LCD with eMMC storage
- Repair of buttons and triggers that act up or stick
- Motherboard and water damage: if the Steam Deck no longer starts up, the examination focuses on the motherboard. If there is water damage, we clean the device and see what can still be repaired.
What you can already check yourself
- Test the stick in the Steam Deck’s settings menu too, so you know whether a game is involved
- Swap the cable and charger before you suspect the USB-C port
- Do not put the Steam Deck on a blanket or cushion, because the fan needs its air vents unobstructed
- Do not open the Steam Deck yourself for charging problems, because the USB-C port is soldered to the motherboard
