Joy-Con stick drift repair

4.961,966 Google reviews

Your character walks away while you hold the Joy-Con still, or the menu scrolls on its own. That is Joy-Con drift: the stick thinks it is being pushed to one side. It is typical of a classic stick: the contact that measures the position wears with heavy use. In a Switch Lite, such a stick is inside the console itself.

FIXNOW replaces the stick in a Joy-Con or Joy-Con 2, in a Switch Pro Controller and in a Switch Lite. A diagnosis comes first, and you know the price before we begin. You can come by in Antwerp or Wolvertem, or ship the device yourself with track & trace.

Choose your sticks

Some repairs come in several versions. Choose below which one fits your device — the price per model is further down.

Stick drift: new stick

from €39

Best for: One stick drifts: the camera or character moves on its own, even when you are not touching the stick.

More info
  • We replace the stick with a new one of the original type
  • Afterwards we test that it settles neatly in the centre

Stick drift: TMR sticks

Recommended

from €49

Best for: The stick drifts and you want a fix that lasts longer than a regular stick.

More info
  • We fit TMR sticks (Hall effect) instead of the regular sticks
  • No sliding contact that wears like in a regular stick
  • We then calibrate and test every direction

Please note

Prefer a stick of the original type? Then choose the standard replacement.

Price per model

Does this sound like your Joy-Con?

  • The character shuffles to one side on its own while you are not moving the stick
  • The Switch menu scrolls on its own
  • Only the left or only the right Joy-Con has the problem and the other works fine
  • The stick feels limp and does not spring back properly
  • On a Switch Lite the view on screen moves by itself, even when you let go of the console

Which repair suits your device?

We repair stick drift on four devices. The method differs per device, the choice does not: you choose either one new stick or TMR sticks on both sides.

  • Joy-Con: the stick is a separate module on a flex cable and can therefore be replaced
  • Joy-Con 2: this Joy-Con also has a classic stick with a contact that wears, so drift can occur here too
  • Switch Lite: the sticks are part of the console, so the console is opened
  • Switch Pro Controller: the sticks are on the motherboard, so replacing them is soldering work

A TMR stick reads the position magnetically, based on the Hall effect principle. Because the sliding contact is missing, there is less wear and the stick lasts much longer.

Try this yourself before you come by

  • Test the stick in the main menu of the Switch; if it drifts there too, a game is not the cause
  • Calibrate the sticks through the console settings. If that helps only briefly, it points to wear
  • Detach the Joy-Con from the console and reattach it, and check whether the drift remains
  • It is better not to open the device yourself, because this is precision work

How a Joy-Con repair works at FIXNOW

1

Which stick is drifting?

We check which stick is drifting and whether the stick is the cause or something else.

2

Your choice

You hear what each option costs and decide yourself: one stick or both as TMR sticks.

3

Replacing and re-checking

After replacing it, we test the stick in the system menu and during a game.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have one Joy-Con repaired while the other works fine?

Yes, each Joy-Con is handled separately. If only the left or the right one has drift, we replace the stick only in that Joy-Con.

What does FIXNOW do about Switch Lite drift?

The controls are built into the console. That is why we open the Switch Lite and replace one stick or both sticks.

Is the Joy-Con 2 of the Switch 2 also prone to drift?

Yes, the Joy-Con 2 also still has a classic stick with a contact that wears. You can choose one new stick or TMR sticks on both sides.

Can a Switch Pro Controller with drift be repaired?

Yes. The sticks are on the motherboard, so replacing them is done by soldering. You choose yourself: the one stick or new TMR sticks.

Why does calibrating help only briefly?

Calibrating corrects the midpoint, but the contact that is wearing out is still there. The drift can therefore come back.
