PS5 controller stick drift repair

4.962,022 Google reviews

In the menu the cursor slides to the left on its own, or the camera in a game keeps turning while you are not touching the stick. That is stick drift: the stick reports a movement that is not there. On a PS5 controller it is a known wear problem, which mostly appears after many hours of play.

FIXNOW repairs stick drift on the DualSense, the DualSense Edge and the DualShock 4. There is also a repair for the PlayStation Portal. In the shops in Antwerp and Wolvertem, a diagnosis comes first, in which we check whether the stick really is the culprit. After that, you compare the two options and hear the price before the work begins. Unable to come by? Then you ship the controller yourself and follow the parcel via track & trace.

Choose your sticks

Some repairs come in several versions. Choose below which one fits your device — the price per model is further down.

Stick drift: new stick

from €39

Best for: One stick drifts: the camera or character moves on its own, even when you are not touching the stick.

More info
  • We replace the stick with a new one of the original type
  • Afterwards we test that it settles neatly in the centre

Stick drift: TMR sticks

Recommended

from €79

Best for: The stick drifts and you want a fix that lasts longer than a regular stick.

More info
  • We fit TMR sticks (Hall effect) instead of the regular sticks
  • No sliding contact that wears like in a regular stick
  • We then calibrate and test every direction

Please note

Prefer a stick of the original type? Then choose the standard replacement.

Price per model

Is this DualSense drift on your PS5 controller?

  • The cursor in the menu wanders off, even with the stick released
  • The camera in a game keeps turning slowly, even when you do nothing
  • Your character walks to one side while the stick is in the middle
  • The stick feels loose or gritty and no longer springs back properly
  • The problem comes back in every game, not just in one

Replacing one stick or both sticks with TMR sticks

By default we replace only the stick that drifts. On the DualSense and the DualShock 4 the sticks are soldered to the motherboard, so the stick module is desoldered and replaced. The DualSense Edge works with swappable stick modules.

If you choose TMR sticks, we replace both sticks. They use the Hall effect principle: a sensor reads a magnet. They have no sliding contact that wears, as a classic stick does, so they last much longer.

  • One stick: only that one stick drifts and the other still feels good
  • TMR sticks: you play a lot and want to replace both sticks in one go
  • PlayStation Portal: only the one-stick variant exists here

What each variant costs, you can find per model in the list on this page.

Test it yourself first

  • Check in the main menu of the PS5 whether the cursor moves there too, because then it is not down to one game
  • Check whether there is visible dirt around the base of the stick and wipe it away with a dry cloth
  • Pair the controller with the console again and see whether anything changes
  • Do not open the controller yourself, because the sticks are soldered to the motherboard

1

Is it really the stick?

We check whether the stick is the cause, and not the software or a game.

2

Choice and price

You decide between a single stick and TMR sticks and hear the price before the work begins.

3

Soldering and testing

After soldering, we test both sticks, in the menu and in a game.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between replacing one stick and TMR sticks?

In the standard repair, only the stick that drifts gets a new one. With TMR sticks we replace both, and they do not wear in the same way because they work without a sliding contact.

Why does a PS5 controller get stick drift?

The sliding contact in a classic stick wears over time. As a result, the stick reports a position that is not there.

Can a DualSense Edge be repaired too?

Yes. The DualSense Edge has swappable stick modules and, just like the DualSense, can get one new stick or TMR sticks on both sides.

Can the PlayStation Portal get TMR sticks too?

No, the PlayStation Portal gets the one-stick variant. TMR sticks are available for the DualSense, the DualSense Edge and the DualShock 4.

Can drift on a DualShock 4 be repaired too?

Yes, the sticks of the DualShock 4 are soldered to the motherboard and can be replaced. Here too you may choose between the one stick and TMR sticks for both.

Can stick drift come back after a repair?

A new classic stick wears again over time. TMR sticks do not have that sliding contact and last much longer.
