Is the display in your iPad 5 made up of two separate parts?
In your iPad 5, the glass with the touch layer (digitizer) and the LCD display are two separate parts. During a full display replacement, the display is replaced, and the glass above it as well if needed. This brings both parts back into proper alignment with each other.
If the display on your iPad 5 still works normally and only the glass is cracked or the touch is unresponsive, it is enough to replace just the glass with the touch layer. This option is usually more affordable than a full display replacement. More about glass replacement
