iPad screen replacement

Cracked screen on your iPad? It's often not as bad as it looks. On many of the devices that come in to us, only the glass is broken; the display underneath still works fine. In that case FIXNOW replaces just that glass and your original display stays in place. That saves you a good amount on the price.

Just don't wait too long. Dirt works its way into the crack and loose shards damage the touch layer, until a glass repair is no longer enough. Below you'll find what you can check yourself and how the repair works in our stores in Antwerp and Wolvertem.

Choose your screen type

What you can check yourself

Before you come to the store

  • Does the display still work normally, or do you see lines, spots or dead pixels?
  • Does touch respond everywhere, including the corners of the screen?
  • Do you feel just a crack, or also unevenness and loose bits of glass?
  • Loose shards? Cover the screen temporarily with tape. That way you won't cut yourself and no glass works its way deeper into the device.
  • Which iPad model do you have exactly? That determines whether only the glass can be replaced.

Just the glass or the full screen?

An iPad screen is made up of layers: the glass with the touch layer on top, and the display itself underneath. On many iPads, that glass sits loose on top of the display. Is only the glass cracked while the display still works? Then a glass repair is enough.

On some models, such as the iPad Air, everything is glued together. That makes the repair more technical, but even then we can often replace just the broken glass. Only when the display itself is affected do we fit the full screen module.

IssueWhat's usually going on
Glass cracked, display and touch still workOnly the glass is replaced; your original display stays in place.
Lines, spots or dead pixelsThe display itself is damaged: a full screen module is needed.
Touch doesn't respond or taps on its ownThe touch layer is faulty and is replaced along with it.
No display, but the device is powered onThe display is no longer receiving a signal: new module needed.

How your iPad screen repair works at FIXNOW

Here's how it goes in our store.

1

Diagnosis

We check whether only the glass or also the display is damaged.

2

Disassembly

We open your iPad carefully with the right tools, without touching the battery or internal components.

3

Fitting the glass or module

Depending on the damage, we replace only the glass or the full screen module.

4

Testing and inspection

We test the display and touch across the whole screen before you get your iPad back.

What to watch out for

Better not to do it yourself

  • Don't keep typing or swiping over cracked glass. Shards work their way into the touch layer, and then a glass repair is no longer enough.
  • Don't try to pry the screen off yourself. On a laminated screen like the iPad Air, everything is glued together; prying it off the wrong way often damages the display or the cables underneath.
  • Cheap repair kits from the internet rarely seal the screen properly. Dust and moisture then get back in just as easily.
