Your iPhone 12 has an OLED screen
The OLED panel in your iPhone 12 handles both the display and touch input as a single unit. During a screen repair, this panel is replaced as a complete module, so colour, brightness and touch response stay consistent with each other. The camera, speaker and other components around the screen are not affected.
If the display and touch on your iPhone 12 still work normally, there is also an option where only the glass on top of the OLED panel is replaced, instead of the whole screen. This option is usually more affordable than a full panel replacement. More about glass replacement
