How we find the fault

Of ten MacBooks that come in because they won’t start up, about half have a problem on the logic board. In two or three it’s a charging problem, and in the rest it’s something else.

Water is usually the cause

In eight out of ten MacBooks with a logic board problem, moisture got in at some point. Corrosion then slowly builds up. The MacBook can keep working fine in the meantime, until one day it just won’t start up anymore.

Just spilled something? Open the MacBook up and lay it keyboard-down on a towel at the edge of a table, with the screen hanging over the edge. That lets the moisture drain out of the keyboard into the towel. Don’t stand it up like a tent, because then the water runs down into the screen’s backlight.

We repair the board ourselves

We do all logic board repairs in our own workshop, which also houses our micro-soldering equipment. On average, a repair like this takes 1 to 7 days.

An authorised service centre replaces the logic board. We repair it at component level. When a MacBook won’t turn on, it’s usually one component on the board that’s faulty or short-circuiting. We replace that component and the rest of the board stays in place.

The diagnosis is free if we repair your MacBook. If a repair isn’t possible or you decide not to go ahead, you pay €39 for the diagnostic work carried out.

Getting your photos and files back

On recent MacBooks, the storage is soldered onto the logic board and can’t be moved to another MacBook. So the way to your files runs through the board: once the logic board is repaired, the MacBook starts up again and you have access to your data once more.

Ideally, give us your login password. That way we can check everything after the repair, for example that the MacBook doesn’t restart by itself.
