The hinge is the heart of a foldable Samsung. If opening or closing changes, that is a reason to have the device checked. But not every position is a defect: a Fold or Flip that stays half open does exactly what the hinge is supposed to do.

When a hinge needs an assessment
Compare with how your device used to open. Change is what counts, not the angle as such.
Reasons to come by
- The device opens less far than before or catches somewhere
- Opening or closing feels stiff, creaks or feels uneven
- The halves sit crooked relative to each other or no longer close evenly
- After a drop or knock there is play, a gap or a visible deformation
- The inner screen is under tension at the fold or lifts at the edge
Does the device stay half open without falling shut? That is what the hinge is meant to do, not a fault.
Hinge, frame and bezel: three different parts
The hinge provides the folding movement. The frame is the chassis of each half and helps keep the screens properly aligned. The bezel is the narrow edge around the inner screen. A loose bezel is therefore not the same as a faulty hinge, and a bent frame is yet another problem.
How these parts fit together differs per generation. Hinge, frame and bezel are each replaced as a separate part, matched to the generation of your device; which part it is, we determine per device.

- Tension on the inner screen at the fold and the condition of the film

We always assess a mechanical problem together with the inner screen: a deformed hinge or frame can put pressure on the panel.
Repair on its own or together with the screen?
If the hinge, the frame or the bezel is damaged while both screens are fine, we replace only that part. That way a working inner screen stays in place.
If the inner screen has been damaged by the deformation, a screen replacement becomes part of the proposal. Which combination your device needs and what it costs, you hear after the assessment, not before.
Do not force it
- Do not push a device that does not open flat any further: the pressure ends up on the inner screen.
- Do not use tools or lubricant on the hinge.
- Open and close a device with a gap or play as little as possible until it has been checked.

My Fold does not open completely flat. Is the hinge broken?
Not necessarily. Compare with how the device used to open: if something has changed, have it checked. We assess hinge, frame and inner screen together before naming a part.
Can the hinge be replaced separately?
Yes, for every Fold and Flip in our catalogue. If both screens are fine, we replace only the hinge, or the frame or bezel if those are deformed. What your device needs is confirmed after the assessment.
What does the assessment cost?
Diagnosis is free when we repair your device. If a repair is not possible or you choose not to proceed, the completed diagnosis costs €39.
My Flip feels stiff since sand or dust got in. What now?
Stop folding it and have the device checked. We assess the hinge and the condition of the inner screen and then discuss what is needed.
Is a loose edge around the screen the same as a hinge problem?
No. The bezel is a separate part. A loosening edge can however be a sign that more is going on; that is why we look at hinge, frame and screen together.
