Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip screen protector replacement
The folding inner screen of a Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip carries a protective film that Samsung applies at the factory. If that film lifts at the fold or forms bubbles, the screen itself does not have to be faulty. On the other hand, a new film never fixes a line or spot in the image.

Film or screen? How to tell the difference
Look at whether the defect is on the surface or in the image itself. Show a bright, even image on the screen for this and look at it up close.

What the film is and what lies beneath it
The inner screen consists of layers. On top lies the replaceable protective film. Beneath it is an ultra-thin glass layer that belongs to the screen, and beneath that the OLED panel that produces the image.
Only the top film is meant to be replaced. If the glass layer or the panel gets damaged, that is screen damage: a new film does not undo it. Samsung itself advises against removing the film at home, because the layer beneath can come with it.
When a new film is enough
Good candidate for a film alone
- Image and touch work normally everywhere
- The defect is on the surface and not in the image
- There is no crack or dent in the screen itself
- The hinge opens and closes as before
Then a film is not enough
- Line, spot or dead zone in the image
- Touch that drops out on part of the screen
- Damage at the fold that you can feel through the film
In the second case we discuss replacing the inner screen as a module; the new film is then already on it.

We test the image, touch and opening and closing before you get your device back.
Tell us which film is on it now: the original factory film, a previously replaced one or a film from another brand. That makes a difference to the assessment.
Why you had better not replace the film yourself
A film for a folding screen has to be applied dust-free and exactly on the fold, otherwise it soon lifts again. More importantly: when pulling off the old film, the layer beneath can get damaged. That turns a small problem into a screen replacement.

Frequently asked questions
Is an air bubble at the fold always screen damage?
No. An air bubble can sit in the film while the screen still shows a normal image. If you see lines or spots in the image, the screen itself is affected. When in doubt, have the device looked at.
Does FIXNOW replace the film separately from the screen?
Yes, for every Fold and Flip in our catalogue, after checking the screen. If the image and touch work normally and the layer beneath is intact, we fit a new original Samsung film. If the screen is damaged, the film comes with the new screen module.
What does the assessment cost?
Diagnosis is free when we repair your device. If a repair is not possible or you choose not to proceed, the completed diagnosis costs €39.
Can I just buy a film and stick it on myself?
For a folding screen we advise against it. Pulling off the old film can damage the layer beneath, and a film that does not sit exactly on the fold soon lifts again. At FIXNOW this is fitting in the workshop, after checking the screen.
May I take the film off myself if it is lifting anyway?
Better not. Leave the film on and bring the device in or send it in. The less the loose edge is pulled at, the smaller the risk of damage to the screen beneath.
