iMac RAM upgrade
Does your iMac start struggling as soon as you have a few too many tabs open? Does switching between apps take longer and longer, and does the spinning wheel show up more often than you'd like? Then your memory is probably full. Your iMac simply doesn't have enough room to run everything smoothly.
Good news: for many iMacs, that can be fixed with extra memory. FIXNOW first checks which model you have and whether an upgrade is possible for your device. If it is, we install the memory expertly, in Antwerp or Wolvertem. If it isn't, we'll tell you honestly and think along with you about an alternative.

- Your iMac slows down as soon as several programs are open at once
- Switching between tabs or windows takes longer and longer
- The spinning wheel appears even for simple tasks
- Programs start up slowly or freeze briefly
- Your iMac feels slower than when it was new
- You often work with demanding applications like photo or video editing
What you can try yourself first
- Close tabs and programs you're not using
- Fully restart your iMac from time to time, instead of just letting it sleep
- Turn off programs that launch automatically and that you don't need
- Clear disk space and remove what you no longer use
Not enough help? Then the problem runs deeper and it's time to have the memory looked at.
How FIXNOW handles it
Diagnosis
We first check which iMac model you have and whether a RAM upgrade is possible for it. On Intel iMacs that's often the case; the 27" even has a memory access panel on the back.
Repair
If your model can be upgraded, we install the extra memory expertly. Your macOS, programs, and files simply stay in place.
Testing
After the upgrade we check that the memory is recognized correctly and that your iMac responds smoothly. Only then do you get the device back.
Why not every iMac can be upgraded
- On Intel iMacs the memory can usually be upgraded. On iMacs with Apple Silicon (M1 and later), the memory is part of the chip itself — upgrading isn't technically possible there. In that case, we look together with you at what does help: a clean-up, or a different device down the line. We'd rather be honest than make a promise we can't keep.
Frequently asked questions
Can I upgrade the memory of every iMac?
No, that depends on the type. On Intel iMacs it's often possible; the 27" even has a memory access panel on the back. On iMacs with Apple Silicon (M1 and later), the memory is part of the chip itself. There's nothing to upgrade there.
How do I know if my iMac is an Intel or an Apple Silicon model?
We can tell quickly from the model and build year. Not sure? Feel free to come by or make an appointment. We'll check your device and tell you right away whether upgrading is an option.
My iMac has Apple Silicon: what can FIXNOW still do?
Upgrading isn't possible then, but slowness often has multiple causes. We clean things up, check what's running in the background, and discuss honestly with you whether a different device is the better choice down the line.
Does my iMac get slower when I have a lot of tabs open?
Yes, that's one of the most common causes. Every open tab and program uses memory. When it fills up, you notice it immediately: everything slows down.
Do my files and programs stay intact during a RAM upgrade?
Yes. We don't touch your macOS, programs, or files. Everything stays exactly as you left it.
Can I go to both Antwerp and Wolvertem for a RAM upgrade?
Certainly. FIXNOW carries out this upgrade at both locations. Choose your model on this page for the price and warranty, and make an appointment at whichever store suits you best.
